HK MAKE IT WORK CHARITY AUCTION
2021.12.17

One day my art teacher from Year 11 introduced to our art class a charity auction that was opening. The auction was held in a French art gallery in Hong Kong, which was partnering with our school and a charity organization. The main purpose of the auction was to raise funds for charity by selling the artworks by artists and art students.
This was the first opportunity for me to officially exhibit my art in a gallery, which was a very special experience. I was immensely excited to show my art to a bigger audience other than my art teacher, family and friends.
I was also very grateful to be able to help be part of a charity organization and the people struggling in poverty. This was especially a very memorable moment in my life because I could help people in need of help by sharing my art that I cherish and spent a lot of time creating.
I was extremely content to receive various comments from different people, especially those I met through this exhibition, as well as my former art teachers and other art students. Sharing thoughts and ideas about art with people from different backgrounds was truly exceptional and eye-opening.
This experience also taught me important skills and qualities in life. I’ve realized once again through this experience that communication and socializing/networking skills are valuable skills in life.

When I think of the factors that make me strong, many things come to mind. Relationships, beliefs, plans, etc were always important in my life.
When I think of the relationship that made me strong, the first thing that comes to my mind is my relationship with my grandmother. My parents were busy since I was little, so my grandmother raised me. That's why the person I was closer to and depended on than other family members was my maternal grandmother.
We shared our daily routine together and had conversations on uncountable amount of topics. She also taught me many important things in life.
I think I was able to become a strong person thanks to my grandmother who stood by me when I made mistakes and struggled. My grandmother's trust in me allowed me to take a step forward with courage. I think I was able to have the personality and mindset I have today thanks to her.

LOOKISM
2021.04.15

In this day and age, with advanced technology and the Internet, social media is heavily influencial. In social media, countless pieces of information are shared and spread within a few seconds.
I am very interested in fashion and beauty, so every time a trend pops up on my feeds. Then eventually, I found myself trying to gradually meet the superficial beauty standards on social media. Beauty is becoming a big task for everyone, regardless of age or gender.
Due to the obsession with appearance, which is indispensable in modern society, many people feel the need to improve their appearance, and our inner self is gradually being forgotten. If you are beautiful or handsome, you are treated better, and if you do not meet the standards created by society, you are looked down upon.
It's not wrong to like beauty, but it can be an issue if attitudes change and discriminations exist because of it.
The background music was created by a group of artists named Ninze & Okaxy who create Ketapop. They have allowed me to use their creation as part of my artwork.

After reading Nikolai Gogol's ' The Nose', I was interested in the artist's imagination and creativity, so I thought about what the nose symbolizes in his work.
The nose was thought to symbolize desire. In the work, the nose pretends to be a human and walks around, immitating a high social class individual. So, I pondered over what desire really is and how it manifests itself. The desires people have are different, but are the same in theory. It is endlessly created and cannot be filled/satisfied.
However, there are cases in which we are so dominated by our individual desires that we forget or ignore things that are more important than what we want. So I tried to recreate Nikolai Gogol's work, which contains the humane characteristics of people, through a video.

Color Palette
2020.06.11

When one’s thinking or looking at a certain color, it evokes a sentiment, an emotion or a feeling. Each color reminds a certain memory with different emotion, and this is different for everyone since everyone has different memories and experiences. When colors are mixed with textures, it adds another layer of emotions.
Based on this concept, I decided to make a color palette. Each color was a piece of paper extracted from magazines. Then, I made random combinations of two colors and decided to name each color a word, according to how or what I felt about that specific color. Then I wrote sentences with those words like a journal, but with colors and more concrete emotions.

The world changes at a rapid pace especially in the current generation that we live in. Its extremely fast pace leads people to a mutation of lifestyles, traditions and people itself along with their behavior. In order to adapt to the transitions and fit into modernity, people shape and change themselves. Being part of society and contributing to it, people and the generation come hand in hand collaborating to cause changes. People’s conduct and reactions to things create the milieu and the world we live in. Generations affect one another, which makes today’s generation to influence the upcoming future ones. New trends come in and the antique goes away.
Naturally, social media were taking substantial parts of people’s quotidian during Covid-19. The time spent on media increased significantly since it was the fastest, most available way of communication for everyone. Trends were one of the predominant factors that united our generation and allowed communication, living through this hardship. People’s inclination to follow the trends, which then became standards and definition of the current generation, led them to some sort of conformity. The influence social media usage had on many people including myself, was unhealthy, almost toxic. It felt like I was being absorbed by social media, not being able to control myself with the amount of time I spend on it.

Covid
2019.00.00

The Covid-19 pandemic had an affect to all of us, and changed numerous aspects of life as well as the way some things worked or functioned.
During the three years with restrictions on and off in Hong Kong, with a more developed way of communication online, I’ve experienced a lifestyle I would never thought of adopting until this epidemic. I felt very trapped at home and almost suffocated, but also at the same time at liberty since I got to achieve and try new things I would have never thought of before.
Now that the coronavirus situation eventually got better, I wanted to make an artwork themed Covid-19 as a memory, and to record myself during the time although it was a hard time for all of us and especially those who passed away and their family.

What is hatred? Is it simply the feeling that arises when one encounters unfamiliar things or when they differ from what one is accustomed to? In society, we encounter various individuals with different backgrounds.
So why do we engage in racial discrimination? Is it solely because of differences in skin color, appearance, or cultural influences? Owing to the sacrifices of victims of racial discrimination and personal attacks in our society, we are well aware of this issue. However, what is the underlying psychology of discrimination?
Why do we have a desire, even though we know it is wrong, to vent our frustrations by resorting to prejudice and discrimination? The human psyche is truly complex.

At a younger age, if someone asked me what my favorite animal was, I always said a tiger or a leopard. Not only did I genuinely like the animal itself, but I also wanted to appear different from other kids.
I wanted to be charismatic, fierce, and elusive, like a top predator in the food chain, difficult to approach. Rather than small adorable animals, I preferred those with power, always seeming like they would come out on top. Even now, animals possessing such characteristics are more special to me.
According to the encyclopedia, leopards are members of the cat family that inhabit Asia and Africa. Due to their wide range of habitats, their size varies depending on the environment. They typically measure 90-160 cm in body length, with males standing 60-70 cm tall at the shoulder and females measuring 57-64 cm. Their weight usually ranges from 31 to 80 kg for males and 23 to 50 kg for females. They are the fifth-largest cats in the felid family, following tigers, lions, jaguars, and pumas.
The largest recorded specimen in South Africa had a total length, including the tail, of 262 cm and weighed 96.5 kg. In India, a specimen measuring 261 cm in length and weighing 78.5 kg was reported.
The rosette pattern, also known as the "rose-mark," is both a camouflage technique and a trademark of the leopard. It is quite beautiful to the human eye, with black flower-like spots scattered on a yellow-brown background.

Early evening, as usual, I finished my meal and asked to play my favorite animation. Sitting on the sofa, it's essential to have toys in hand while watching. Today, I chose a plastic sky-blue plate that I had used for pretend-play, where I would put the food I made.
Inside the sparkling square, I don't exactly know what the moving things are or what story they tell, but I find it strangely amusing and get absorbed in it. The changing world and the characters that appear in the small glass window are like my friends, taking up a significant part of my daily life and dominating it. Listening to their conversations and witnessing various events, I feel like I coexist with them in the same space. With the same emotions and empathy, I interact and connect with them.
Observing the clothes they wear and the places they live brings joy and keeps my eyes captivated. I have a friend who always stays by my side, accompanying me wherever I go. During bedtime, mealtime, or when I go outside, this friend is with me. Today, I embark on an adventure with this friend inside the square. They are like my right arm, and even if they are slightly away from me, I feel lonely and scared. This friend doesn't speak or move, but playing together and being beside me soothe my loneliness.

Vision, hearing, touch, smell and taste.
Vision: the act of sensing something with the eyes. When I see a passionfruit, my mouth starts to water, and I can almost taste the tangy and tropical flavor bursting with each juicy bite.
Hearing: the ability to perceive sounds. While eating the passionfruit, I can hear my own teeth crunching its seeds, almost like fireworks.
Touch: a fundamental form of non-visual perception. My fingertips glide over its smooth and slightly wrinkled skin, feeling the firmness beneath.
Smell: the power of perceiving scents. Its tangy, sour scent, almost pops in my nose, reminiscent to neon flashes.
Taste: the sensation of flavour perceived in the mouth. Tasting a passionfruit is an explosion of tart flavors on my tongue, feeling waves of tropical delight.

時間軸
2021.09.07

“時間軸” signifies “timeline” in traditional chinese. Promenading the streets of Hong Kong, one can observe walls of old buildings with vibrant cultural expressions. Each building tells a unique story, blending a fusion of influences from East and West. From traditional shophouses with their ornate balconies and decorative motifs to modern skyscrapers, the diversity of architectural styles is inspiring. Amidst the busy streets, the facades also reveal the city's rich history. Strolling past colonial-era buildings, one cane be transported back in time, imagining the stories and events that have unfolded within these walls. The ornate detailing, elegant balconies, and arched windows evoke a sense of nostalgia, reminding me of Hong Kong's past as a British colony. The street walls of Hong Kong are not merely functional structures; they are a reflection of the city's spirit and identity. They embody the dynamic blend of tradition and modernity, creativity and heritage.

One of my favorite sense of all five senses human possess, if having a favorite had a meaning, it would be touch. To bring a bodily part into contact is concrete, real, and direct. Touch signals safety and trust, such as the act of holding something, like hands. It builds a physical connection. Through our skin, we perceive textures, temperatures, and pressures, allowing us to experience a vast range of sensations. Touch has the power to convey comfort, love, and empathy. It enables us to explore and navigate our environment, feeling the surrounding. It adds depth and richness to our daily experiences, reminding us of our physical presence and the beauty of tactile connections.
